Magic mushrooms, also called mushrooms or psilocins, are a loose, unspecific category of fungi comprising lots of diverse polyphyletic genera. The psilocin molecule in mushrooms is much similar to the body's natural endocannabinoid (CB 1) receptor. Polyphyletic genera containing psilocins include Gymnopilus and Inocybe, which grow in tropical rain forests and mountainous areas.
Psilosis is quite rare, non-fatal type of mushroom poisoning caused by ingesting psilosis-causing species, such as P. cubensis. P. cubensis develops in a lot of countries in Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Symptoms of psilosis in humans consist of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, abdominal bloating, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, and weight loss. Other serious psilosis symptoms include seizures, coma, irregular heartbeat, and passing.
Magic mushrooms are used for more than 100 years for a variety of uses. Most commonly, people seek mushrooms out of nature for used in cooking, like in soup. Also, they are periodically smoked to develop other types of dishes, such as stews, soups, chili, or cheeses. Many people have even taken them to be more physically active.
Magic mushrooms have become popular in the USA recently. The most well-known type is the Amanita muscaria, which is used in Oriental medicine for everything from weight loss to anxiety to general physical and mental health. Because they have not been thoroughly studied, however, it is not clear if their effects on mental performance aren't any different than for other compounds and hormones.
